YOU are going to watch your company if you are to maintain your deliverance effectively. Show me your friends and I will tell your character!
If you are going to maintain your deliverance you are going to seriously consider the company you keep. 1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.”(NIV).
Most of the time it is the believer who is compromising.
If you are going to live as Christ lived, then the non-believer will stop walking with you.
Amos 3:3 says, “Do two walk together unless they agree to do so.”
If you are walking with somebody you will give them advice and they also will advice you. You cannot have a non-believer giving you advice according to worldly principles.
Simply put: Don’t walk with them.
If you walk with non- believers you are soon going to stand, and sit with them! Psalm1:1 says, “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.“(NIV).
And, I John 2: 15 “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the father is not in them.” (NIV).
If you are close to people who do not know Christ, you start to crave the things that they crave, you start to care about the things they care about, you start being dissatisfied about the things they are dissatisfied with. And remember, our adversary, Satan, knows what the world traps us with.
The bible equates befriending the world and things of the world with enmity with God. James 4:4 “You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God.” (AMPC).
Old friends, old habits are usually barriers to growth. They often pull you down. Beware of ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends. Beware of old places you used to visit. These could be the weak points the enemy would want to use to stall your deliverance.
