MANY people experience deliverance only to find themselves relapsing into old habits or even worse conditions.
Perhaps, you know of a loved one who is incapable of staying free. Their deliverance never lasted! Why is this ?
The reason of their failure in staying free lies in the fact that the person was not taught how to fight back in case of Satan launched a counter attack.
Laying a solid foundation for staying free first is crucial to seeing lasting results after deliverance. Here is what the Bible says- when an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, “I will return to the person I came from”.
So, it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits eviler than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so, that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this generation – Matthew 12:43-45.
Deliverance minister
This is the reason why many become worse than before after being delivered.
When the enemy regroups for a comeback, the deliverance minister more often than not will not be there with you.
You will be all by yourself. This is why you need to be equipped to fight back and overcome returning demons through effort on your part.

You can call on the name of Jesus Christ all by yourself and He will answer you and help you in staying free. Christ who is the life-giving spirit lives in all believers.
We no longer operate from the inherited weaknesses of the first Adam, but the second Adam who is Jesus Christ! Christ is not only with us, but also in us as the hope of glory.
How does it work?
Here is a what you will need to consider in order to continue enjoying your newfound freedom after deliverance.
- Your mind– after deliverance, a fierce battle starts , not in the heavenlies but in your mind. You have been used to defeat and lack and so your mind is programmed that way. Out of the abundance of your heart, your mouth has spoken words that went along with your previous experiences. “I will never be able to…I am not able to…”
In staying free, you will now need to be transformed by the renewing of your mind which will only come as you soak it in the word of God through reading, meditation and application. Roman 12: 2 – Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will .
It’s not just about being set free but learning to walk in freedom by aligning one’s thoughts with truth. Saturating one’s mind with Scripture, meditating on it, and living it out equips a person to counter the lies of the enemy.
- Your words-The Bible says as a man thinks, so is he(Proverbs 23:7). To stay free, you will need to chart a new path for your life through your words. Let the weak say, I am free, Let the poor say, I am rich!
You are going to speak of things that are not as if they are. Romans 4:17 As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.
In the tongue is power of life and death. Proverbs 18:21- The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Choose positive words of affirmation, words of faith, start saying, “I can, I will, I am able…!”
Create a new reality through faith-filled confessions. Begin to speak life over yourself, breaking past negative thought patterns, and declaring God’s promises.
- Your prayers– staying free after deliverance will require a shift in your approach to prayer. You will have to train yourself to become a prayer warrior. Building a lifestyle of fervent and consistent prayer ensures that a person stays alert and resistant to the enemy’s schemes.

This is a critical and often overlooked part of the deliverance ministry- the importance of discipleship and personal responsibility in maintaining freedom.
While teaching people to stand on their own is important, we emphasize the role of community. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us of the importance of gathering with other believers for encouragement. Accountability partners and spiritual mentors can provide guidance and support.
Spiritual Warfare Skills
To further help you maintain your deliverance, BBI offers monthly teaching on Spiritual warfare to help believers on the need to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and equip people to recognize the schemes of the enemy, resist temptation, and wield the sword of the Spirit effectively.
It will also be of help to develop a structured post-deliverance plan that includes –Daily Bible reading plans, declarations to affirm daily, build a consistent prayer habit and fasting when needed.
The role of Holy Spirit as the believer’s guide, teacher, and source of power (John 14:26, Acts 1:8) cannot be overemphasized. Rely on the Spirit’s leading in your daily walk.
Those we take through deliverance are encouraged to stay connected through our BBI platforms, prayer watches and be available for periodic check-ins with our trusted deliverance ministers.
Remember, you are not alone in your journey of staying free after deliverance!

When you call on Jesus, He is right there with you, giving you strength to overcome. Remember, staying free is a partnership between you and God—He supplies the power, and you make the daily choice to walk in His victory
Reclaim lost ground
This heartbreaking cycle of relapse is not uncommon in the deliverance ministry, and the Bible provides clear insight into why this happens and how it can be avoided.
Freedom must be maintained, or the enemy will attempt to reclaim lost ground. The key to staying free lies in preparation, equipping oneself spiritually, and taking responsibility for ongoing victory.
Staying free after deliverance requires intentionality. The enemy will attempt to regroup and return, but with the right foundation, you can stand firm and remain victorious.
By renewing your mind, guarding your words, building a strong prayer life, filling your life with God’s presence, and staying connected to community, you can walk in lasting freedom and help you steer clear of doors that could open up again to the enemy.
