Real benefits of dwelling in the secret place of the Most high

A MEMBER The Well church who was miraculously healed of an uncurable disease attests to the meaning of  closet prayer according to Pastor George Maina.

He told a congregation at the BLUMEC church in Ngaliema , Kinsasha DRC Congo on June 3 2022 that the woman had been praying and trusting God for her healing because she was HIV Positive and when she called him, “she was  crying on the other end of the line, but her tears were now tears of joy…”

The pastor said the woman had called to share her testimony of what the Lord had done.

“She had been healed and had gone to the doctor(s) to confirm of the healing, naturally as a human being she did three tests and all results were negative,” he added.

Pastor George said this was a living testimony of a woman who had spent time praying in private, “in the secret place, but the Lord was now rewarding her openly.”

He likened it to the ministry of Christ and explained that miracles, signs and wonders manifested everywhere He went because he spent quality time in prayer-in the secret place.

The pastor said in Mathew 6: 1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.”(ESV), Jesus in this scripture, “was commanding us on how to prevail over our circumstances.

Charitable deeds

Pastor George went further  to state that Jesus gave Christians the blueprint of a victorious lifestyle in His teachings.

On doing charitable deeds, he said, God looks at the motive. “If you do it for a show off  you are a hypocrite,” he said. He explained that the world does things for acclaim but not so in the ways of the Kingdom.

Giving, the pastor , is a lifestyle of a true Christian. “About a month ago at our church in Nairobi, Kenya, someone donated a drum-set, we had been only having a single instrument for quite sometime, however, the person said she would not want to be known,” the pastor said.

He said the person preferred to remain anonymous after donating the drum-set to the church but has since experienced “the public rewarding from God by experiencing growth in her business.”

Pastor George said when one does something for people to see they are lying to God, just like Ananias and his wife Sapphira did, wanting people to see their act of generosity, but still kept some for themselves.

He explained that God looks at the motive when we give, “not how much, but the attitude of the heart.”

Emergency call

Concerning prayer, the pastor said, prayer is a core-lifestyle of a believer and should not only be “an emergency call.”

He said the hypocrites  “stand in the streets” to be seen by men, to show off at strategic places and “already have their reward,” according to Mathew 6: 5-6 And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray at the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others, truly I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”(ESV)

Pastor George said Christ, already gave us the way by telling us what to do- go to into your room, the secret place and pray to the heavenly Father who sees in secret but rewards openly.

“God is found in the secret place, in a time you are seeking God do it in a way nobody even knows you are praying,” he said, and that the solution will come, openly, to the glory of God, the Father.

Jesus’ ministry

The preacher said Psalm 91:1  talks about the secret place where God is found. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”(NKJV).

He said the reason why miracles manifested in Jesus’s ministry was because He dwelt in the secret place of the Most High. Mark 1:3-5 “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (NIV).

Pastor George explained that Jesus had a lifestyle of prayer, and would wake up before day-break, retreat to a solitary “secret place” to pray, thus God would answer him during the day with spectacular miracles, signs and wonders. “During the day miracles kept on happening because he had spent time praying  in the secret,” he explained.

Standing in the gap

On fasting as a believer’s lifestyle again the pastor said this should be in “secret.”

“Our Father likes rewarding people in the open and to show off on our behalf,” he said. He said Christians should not show men how spiritual they are, but “go to the secret place where the Father is watching, so He may reach you in the open.”

He called on the church to stand in the gap by fasting and prayer, to break demonic strongholds in businesses, family and the nations.

“Jesus stood in the gap for us to be saved, and for circumstances to change someone must be willing to stand in the gap,” the pastor said.
