IN many circles, the "prosperity gospel" has left a bitter taste, causing many sincere believers to turn away from the idea of wealth and riches altogether. But we must ask: Does God actually dislike rich people?
If God had a problem with wealth, He certainly would have had a problem with Job. Before his trials began, the Bible describes Job’s immense estate: 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, and a vast number of servants (Job 1:3).
Yet, the first thing God says about Job isn't about his bank account; it’s about his character: “This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.”
Where Does Wealth Come From?
Job didn’t extort his riches. Even Satan had to admit where Job’s prosperity originated:
“You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.” — Job 1:10
God is the source of the ability to produce wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). Just as no earthly parent wants their child to live in lack, our Heavenly Father takes no pleasure in our poverty. In fact, Scripture points to a profound exchange that happened at the Cross:
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." — 2 Corinthians 8:9
The Purpose of Your Prosperity
God wants His children to have abundance, but He is not silent on how we should handle it. Wealth is a tool, not a god.
-
Don’t Make Wealth Your Hope: We are commanded not to be arrogant or to put our hope in uncertain riches, but in God who provides everything for our enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:17).
-
Use it to Bless Others: Job used his wealth to rescue the poor and make the "widow’s heart sing" (Job 29:12-13).
-
Store Treasure in Heaven: We invest in eternity when we use our resources to build God's Kingdom and support ministries that lead people to Jesus.
How to Attract True Riches
If you are currently experiencing lack or struggling to make ends meet, know that this is not God’s ultimate desire for you. You are a child of the King!
The "secret" to biblical prosperity isn't chasing money—it’s chasing the Maker of the money.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:33
When we align our hearts with His kingdom priorities, we become stewards that God can trust with much.
