ONE of the profound benefits provided to believers through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is divine healing. Unlike medicine, which treats symptoms or temporarily relieves pain, divine healing restores and renews the body at its deepest level.
An aspirin can cure a headache, but it cannot restore a damaged kidney. I know this personally, because I once had damaged kidneys. Medical solutions were not enough. I needed divine healing, and I received it through the finished work of the cross of Calvary.
The Bible assures us that all the promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20). Healing is one of these promises.
Biblical Promises Concerning Divine Healing
The Word of God contains numerous scriptures that guarantee healing to the believer:
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:5
Jesus was wounded in His body so that we could receive healing in our physical bodies. Divine healing is a divine exchange, freely given through His death. You do not need to be perfect or earn it; it is received through faith in His finished work.
The Human Need for Healing
Humanity is inherently weak and prone to sickness. Visiting a hospital reveals the stark reality of human infirmity. Many hospitals have mortuaries, testifying to the limitations of natural remedies.
The desperation for divine healing is not new. The early church witnessed people bringing the sick to the apostles, hoping for miraculous restoration:
“As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.” – Acts 5:15
Similarly, Apostle Paul ministered healing that surpassed natural medicine:
“God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.” – Acts 19:11-12
Even Jesus encountered people who had suffered under human doctors:
“She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew
Divine healing is different from the healing that we get through taking medication. An aspirin can cure a headache, but an aspirin cannot cure.

What are the promises in the Bible concerning divine healing?

Jesus was wounded in his body so that we can receive healing in our body.
I do not have to be good in order to receive divine healing. I do not have to please God in order for me receive it. It was given freely though the death of Jesus Christ!
It was a divine exchange, only to be manifested in the physical realm through faith!
The human race is a sick race! Just take a quick visit to the over one hundred hospitals in the nation and you will be faced with the stark reality of the level of infirmity that people are living with.
Each of these hospitals have a mortuary, to receive those who will not recover from their sickness. The desperation to have our loved ones healed can be seen from this passage of Scripture.
“As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by” – Acts 5:15.
The Apostle Paul also encountered this need for divine healing. “So that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them” – Acts 19:11.
Why did people bring the sick to the apostles? It was because the doctors had failed to cure them. One such women looked for Jesus for divine healing.
“She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse” – Mark 5:26.
Doctors are the first to bring our attention to the fact that there are incurable diseases such as Cancer, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Arthritis, Asthma etc. The Bible also corroborates this fact “
“The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors, festering sores and the itch, from which you cannot be cured” – Deuteronomy 28:27. There are diseases from which we cannot be cured without divine intervention!
These are the diseases that 1 Peter 2:24 is talking about. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”
Jesus was wounded so that you would not die from “incurable” diseases. You have been healed! Not, you will be healed. We were healed over 2,000 years ago when the Son of God was crucified!
Faith starts with believing this fact beyond a shadow of a doubt!
Why then do people still die from the diseases that the doctors have termed as incurable? This is because although Jesus Christ has already provided the healing, there may be a barrier that is standing in our way.
We see this barrier in Exodus 20:3-5. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.”
Jesus died to take this curse away from us. He became our curse. We and our loved ones should not die from the curse of Cancer, High blood Pressure, Diabetes, Asthma, or any incurable disease (Galatians 3:13). We as believers can appropriate the divine healing that Jesus Christ has already provided!
How To Appropriate Healing: Prayer
Heavenly Father, I accept guilt and bring repentance for the sin of worshiping other Gods that is in my bloodline from myself and my ancestors. We have sinned and done wrong. Please forgive us. Cleanse us with the blood of Jesus Christ. I take authority and break every curse over my life through the blood of Jesus Christ! I command the spirit of --------------(mention the sickness) to leave my body right now in the name of Jesus Christ! Breathe out gently through your mouth until you feel relief. You may yawn or cough. Thank You Father for setting me free! Believe by faith that through this prayer, you have been set free!
