MANY believers fear Satan and spiritual warfare, yet Scripture teaches us to stand firm, use the Word of God, and walk in authority and victory in Christ.
One reason fear persists is that spiritual warfare is rarely taught from pulpits. Most sermons focus on salvation, hope, faith, and love—which are vital—but the topic of the devil and spiritual warfare is often avoided.
Some ministers avoid it to prevent fear in their congregations or to avoid giving attention to Satan. While well-intentioned, this often produces the opposite effect: ignorance breeds fear.
Fear Often Comes from a Lack of Knowledge
Many believers’ understanding of Satan is shaped by culture, cartoons, or exaggerated stories—none of which are biblical.
Even after coming to Christ, fear can remain. Without personal study of the Word of God, false images and intimidation persist. Sadly, this is still true for many believers today.
Every Believer Is Already in Spiritual Warfare
Whether we acknowledge it or not, every believer is part of the Lord Jesus Christ’s army.
Spiritual warfare is not optional. Ignoring it leads to unnecessary defeat, harassment, and vulnerability to the enemy’s schemes. Scripture warns us clearly about the adversary—pretending he doesn’t exist does not remove him.
Victory depends on understanding three key truths:
-
Who Jesus Christ is
-
Who we are in Christ
-
Who Satan really is
The Truth About Satan’s Defeat
The Bible reassures us:
“He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
(1 John 4:4)
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ defeated Satan:
“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
(Colossians 2:15)
Satan is not all-powerful. His influence lies in deception and intimidation, not real authority.
Authority Has Been Given to the Believer
Jesus not only defeated Satan, He delegated authority to believers.
We are not to fear the devil, but we are also not to ignore him. Scripture instructs us to resist him—and resisting requires action and knowledge of the Word of God.
“God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
(Ephesians 2:6)
This is our position: authority, victory, and confidence in Christ.
From Fear to Confidence in Christ
Many believers fear Satan because they do not yet know Scripture well enough to see his defeat.
Growing in God’s Word replaces fear with revelation, and intimidation with confidence.
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
(Luke 10:19)
Believers are on the winning side. We have authority. We have victory.
