IMAGINE the anxiety Jesus’ disciples must have felt as they watched Him ascend into the sky, disappearing until a cloud hid Him from their sight.
For over three years, they had followed Him faithfully, participating in the work God the Father had given Jesus to do. Even in His final moments on earth, Jesus remained focused on His mission, never allowing distractions to pull Him off course.
Jesus’ Mission Was Always Aligned with the Father
Jesus did not act on His own will. He said:
“My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I too am working.”
(John 5:17)
What God the Father was accomplishing in the invisible spiritual realm, Jesus manifested visibly on earth.
“…The Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does, the Son also does.”
(John 5:19)
Jesus never allowed distractions to divert Him from the work God had called Him to do. To understand the Father’s work, we only need to observe the life of Jesus:
“For the Father loves the Son and shows him all He does…”
(John 5:20)
The Father’s Work Revealed Through Jesus
Who raised Lazarus, the widow’s son at Nain, or Jairus’ daughter? It was God the Father, working through Jesus.
“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.”
(John 5:21)
Jesus’ earthly mission culminated on the cross:
“I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.”
(John 17:4)
Notice: He said the work given to Him was finished, not all work on earth. The Father’s work continues today—through His children.
Joining God in His Work Today
God is still active in the world—saving souls, healing the sick, and delivering those in bondage. He invites us to join Him, just as Jesus did.
To participate, we must walk closely with the Father, following Jesus’ example:
-
Read the Bible regularly
-
Pray without ceasing
-
Seek God’s guidance before acting
“As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”
(John 20:21)
Where is God at work in your life—family, office, business, or hospital? Where is there fruit (Galatians 5:22)? That is where He is inviting you to participate.
