"Entertainment alone cannot grow spiritual maturity. Discover why teaching young believers the pure, undiluted Word of God is essential for lasting faith, growth, and victory in Christ."

The Danger of Entertainment Without Discipleship

UNFORTUNATELY, much singing, dancing, and constant entertainment—combined with very little teaching of the Word—has produced young believers who must continually be entertained in order to stay engaged. While joyful worship has its place, it can never replace the foundational role of Scripture in a believer’s life.

Funny stories and personal spiritual experiences may amuse a congregation, but they cannot feed a hungry soul. Only the pure Word of God has the power to produce real spiritual growth.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…” – Hebrews 4:12

Following Jesus Means Knowing His Word

Those who choose to follow Jesus Christ must be taught how to truly follow Him. Jesus is revealed through His Word. Without Scripture, believers are left without direction, depth, or endurance.

“Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15

Believers must learn to rightly divide the Word of truth in order to walk in victory. Any ministry that encourages people to study the Bible for themselves will bear lasting fruit.

Shallow Teaching Produces Shallow Roots

Very little grows in shallow soil. Jesus Himself warned about this when He spoke of seed sown on rocky ground:

“Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.” – Matthew 13:5–6

A shallow or diluted message may produce excitement, but it cannot sustain faith when challenges arise.

Simple Is Not the Same as Diluted

No believer is too young to understand the Word of God. Giving young believers a diluted message will not produce a transformed life. There is a vital difference between a simple Word and a diluted Word.

A simple mango juice is made purely from mango.
A diluted mango juice has water added to it.

The same is true of Scripture. God’s Word can be taught simply—without watering it down.

If someone understood the gospel well enough to choose to follow Jesus Christ, then the Holy Spirit, who now lives within them, will help them understand the Word of God.

“The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time.” – Matthew 13:20–21

The Path to Spiritual Maturity

Sadly, many young believers who are not grounded in the Word fall away when trouble or persecution comes because of their faith. Spiritual maturity only develops through consistent engagement with Scripture—reading it, meditating on it, and obeying it.

“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” – Hebrews 5:14

A strong faith is built on a strong foundation, and that foundation is the Word of God.

Prayer Points

  1. Repentance – Ask the Lord for forgiveness for not maturing in your faith due to inconsistency in His Word.

  2. Discipleship – Ask the Holy Spirit to bring young believers into your life with whom you can share the undiluted Word of God.

  3. Thanksgiving – Thank the Father for His Word, which is living, active, and sharper than any two-edged sword.
