How invisible barriers torment Christians

SOME of the most miserable people are in church. They fight barriers they don’t understand.

Despite promises given to them in the bible, when we look at their lives we see a huge difference.

Even a casual glance at the plight of committed Christians leave one wondering whether Galatians 3:13 should be in the bible.

We see Christians living in abject poverty, dying from incurable diseases, having wayward children who do not fear God, depressed, oppressed and defeated.

Their lives seem to be a constant struggle against invisible barriers.

Here’s a related post on how invisible barriers work against us. Click the link below to read.

Invisible barriers always blocking us

Christ saved us and left us here on earth to be victorious.

Revelation 5:10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God and they will reign on earth.”

We are to possess, exercise strength, power and authority.

But do we reign in our circles of influence, family, circle of friends, at our workplaces, communities and even in the neighbourhoods where we live?

Kings are supposed to make decrees and orders!

Job 22:28What you decide on will be done and light will shine on your ways.”

Christ’s ambassadors

We are Christ’s ambassadors to manifest His kingdom.

Mathew 6:10 “Your kingdom come , may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

He wants His will to manifest through us as “sons and daughters of God.”

What are we supposed to manifest?

If we understand who we are we will know what to manifest.

We are priests in the kingdom. 1 Kings 3:12 “I will do what you have asked, I will give you a wise and discerning heart so that there will never been anyone like you nor there be.”

In Mathew 12:42, we are told we have greater wisdom than Solomon!

“The queen of the south will rise with this generation and condemn it for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom and now something greater that Solomon is here.”

Now we are greater and we have more wisdom. The greater one lives in us!

Barriers that stop us

The problem is we do not know what we possess.

Even creation is waiting for us to start ruling, manifesting as sons of God.

Romans 8:19 “For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.”

Picture a blind man resting against a tree. The tree wonders, “when is this Christian going to command his eyes to open?”

Creation is shocked. We have disappointed creation.

When Jesus went to Nazareth, he took the scroll of the Prophet Isaiah and opened it to His life’s mission statement:

Luke 4:18The spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim the good news to poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind.

To set the oppressed free and to proclaim the year of the Lord favour.”

One of the barriers that stop us from manifesting is not knowing who we are.

Creation is waiting

Jesus passed on the button to us but  do we have;

1 John 2:20But you have an anointing for the holy one and all of you know the truth.”

Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy spirit and power and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because God was with him.”

Isaiah 55 :12 “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. The mountain and hills will burst into song before you and all the trees of the fields will clap their hands.”

Creation is waiting!

“They are finally using the power and authority that they have,” creation says.

Reason why things happen

But why don’t we see the manifestation?

Why are many Christians sad, depressed, struggling, fearful, disillusioned, worried, hopeless, dying young and not accomplishing their purposes?

There is always a reason why things happen.

Proverbs 26:2Like a flattering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.”

Judges 6:1-2 depicts what we see of Christians , “The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and for seven years he gave them into the hands of the Midianites.

Because the power of Midian was so oppressive, the Israelites prepared shelters for themselves in mountain clefts, caves and strongholds.

Christians are in hiding!

In Verse 6 the Israelites, “Cried out to the Lord for help.” We need to cry out to the Lord.

Gideon wondered why had all this oppression come upon them. Verse 13:

Pardon me my Lord, Gideon replied, but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us.

Where are all His wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said did not the lord bring us up out of Egypt, but now the Lord has abandoned us and given us to the hand of the Midian.

Gideon did not know that the reason was idolatry.

Verse 24So Gideon built an altar to the Lord and called it the Lord is peace. To this day it stands in Oprah of the Abiezrites.

The moment you become saved you are an altar-the presence of God is in you.

Verse 25-“That same night the Lord said to him take the second bull from your fathers herd, the one seven years old, tear down your fathers altar to Baal and cut down the Ashera pole beside it.

Invisible barriers

First deal with what your forefathers did. Tear down your father’s altar. What kind of altars did the forefathers build?

They stand as invisible barriers to prevent you from  reigning on the earth as a manifested child of God.

Exodus 20:3-5You shall have no other gods before me, you shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

You shall not ow down to them or worship them for I the Lord your God am a jealous God punishing the children for the sins of the parents to the third and fourth generation to those who hate me.

Prayer and fasting

The things we do will affect generations to come.

Things happening in our lives can be because of something someone else did

You could be trying to solve the problem by prayer and fasting but nothing is changing. The problem did not originate with you.

Lamentations 5:7 –Our ancestors sinned and are no more, but we bear their punishment.

The sins of the forefathers brought a curse, and we bear  the punishment.

Aaron sinned, his sons and descendants bore the punishment.

Exodus 23:24Do not ow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their scared stones to pieces.”

Did Aaron worship another God?

Exodus 32:2-4Aaron answered them take off the gold earrings that your wives , your sons and your daughters are wearing and bring them to me. So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron who took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf , fashioning it with a tool. Then they said this are your gods Israel who brought you up out of Egypt.”

God detests idolatry. Leviticus 26:1Do not make up idols or set up and image or  sacred stone for your selves. Do not place a capstone in your land to bow down before it I am the Lord your God.”

Disobedience brings curses that become invisible barriers that mar our success and happiness.

Deuteronomy 28:25The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies, you will come at them in one direction but you will flee from them in seven and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth.”

Deuteronomy 28:14Do not turn aside from the commands I give you today to right or to the left following other gods and serving them.”

Broken by repentance

Aaron’s sons Nabad and Abihu died young. A curse of early-death was already in their lives when their father worshipped another God.

Luke 1:5In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.”

Elizabeth was a descendant of Aaron. Is her righteousness affecting this curse? No!

When  curses present themselves as an invisible barriers, prayer does not remove it.

Curses are broken by repentance, followed by an oral proclamation of  breaking the curse in Jesus ‘name and finally speaking a blessing.

Examples of curses include bareness, addictions, early death, incurable diseases, accidents and many more.

Suspect the presence of a curse when circumstances remain unchanged by prayer.

A prerequisite for breaking of all curses is repentance on behalf of others and oneself.

Follow these steps to break the curse;

  1. Repentance– a generational curse cannot be broken until all sins of all ancestors and predecessors on all sides of the family are confessed back to the family origins.

Asking with repentance for forgiveness for all the sins and specifically for the sins that brought the curse in the family line.

Speak repentance for any people whom these ancestors and predecessors may have hurt and ask the Lord for forgiveness back to the family’s origin.

  1. Declare a break of the curse– Many people say a curse can never follow a Christian because Jesus died on the cross of Calvary and carried our curses. That is the truth Galatians 3:13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for it is written cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree. He redeemed us so that the blessing give to Abraham might come to the gentiles through Jesus Christ.”

The same way that the power of sin has to be broken over our lives through accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, the power of the curse also has to be broken over our lives through repentance for the sins of our forefathers.

We are to appropriate the blessings in the same way we do for salvation.

  1. Ask the Lord to remove the consequences of the curse and declare blessings- Look at the cross and see that Jesus has carried the curse on His body through his death.
