Overtaken? Fast runners never win!

DO you feel overtaken in the race of life ? Sit back and relax, fast runners do not always win. Allow them to scramble!

You felt that a promotion or recognition you deserved was unjustly given to someone else, even less deserving? Or perhaps that your peers have overtaken are doing much better than you?

Relax, don’t mind! God is in control of all situations and preparing you, and when the right time comes, it will be done according to His will.

Ecclesiastes 3:1. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

I want to encourage you today, when you’re overtaken in the race of life , remember when your time comes, it will be done according to God’s will, just don’t give up!

In Genesis 13:7, quarrelling arose between Abraham’s herdsmen and Lot’s over greener pastures and water. “And quarrelling arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time.”

And, in pursuit of peace, Abraham allowed Lot to make a decision and the Bible says he selected, “the whole plain towards the East.”

Genesis 13:8-11. So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarrelling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”

Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company:

This did not change Abraham’s destiny of blessings , prosperity and God’s plans for Him.

When overtaken

Infact, God blessed Abraham even more and thereafter nothing is said about Lot but we hear more of Abraham’s blessing.

Many times people take away from us the best…at places of work you may feel overtaken, isolated as people share the spoils amongst themselves, they select the best and leave you with the not so good!

Fear not, when overtaken, because what God has for you far outweighs what has been taken away from you.

Allow them to scramble and fight for what they think is best, yours will be greater and will come with ease, only focus on God, make the right choices and never give up!

When King David was old and advanced in age Adonijah put himself forward and said, “I will be king!”

1Kings 1:1-5. Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

By exulting ourselves, we can for a time obtain the position we seek but whatever is acquired outside God’s will soon turns to ashes.

In Esther 6:1-3 we see Mordecai had exposed a conspiracy against the king but had not been honoured.

That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him.

It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.

“What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked.

“Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered.

Present position

The Bible goes on to say Herman had just entered the outer court of the palace to speak to the King.

He is asked what should be done for the man the king delights to honour, and he selfishly thinks to himself that it is him and no one else.

He wants the best for himself and others may feel overtaken.

When Jesus saw how guests had elbowed each other and scrambled for the best places for themselves he rebuked them through a parable.

Luke 14:7-11. When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:

“When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited.

If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.

But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests.

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

No one can change your destiny, it is you to follow God as He leads your steps.

Keep on believing- whatever the devil will use, will be turned to your advantage to take your to your destiny.

The devil cannot change our destiny it is only ourselves who can lose focus in the race of life, especially when we start to feel overtaken by others.

Agree with God and keep trusting him through the race.

Do not be worried, God has the best plans for you, claim your position of victory prayerfully.

Remember, you present position in the race does not dictate your future position at the finish line but your attitude does.

You may have been overtaken, but you don’t know when your time is coming.

Fast runners

Ecclesiastes 9:11-12

 I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.

Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come:

As fish are caught in a cruel net,  or birds are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times  that fall unexpectedly upon them.

Fast runners do not always win.

When overtaken;

  1. Remain cheerful because you know God’s agenda for your life cannot be changed. Ecclesiastes 9:Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil.

  1. Continue working hard at whatever you do Ecclesiastes 9:10. Whateveryour hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

When God’s season comes, the Lord will visit you. He makes everything beautiful at His time!

As we can see the reward is not only for the swift, bread not only for the wise…whether overtaken or not, there will be food in your house, wealth, favour because it is God’s own doing, His grace is sufficient and it is upon you.

But there is a reward for the swift, the fast runners. 2 Samuel 4:9-12.

David answered Rekab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, “As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble, when someone told me, ‘Saul is dead,’ and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and put him to death in Ziklag.

That was the reward I gave him for his news! How much more—when wicked men have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed—should I not now demand his blood from your hand and rid the earth of you!”

So David gave an order to his men, and they killed them. They cut off their hands and feet and hung the bodies by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-Bosheth and buried it in Abner’s tomb at Hebron.
