Satan on the prowl…do not ignore!

Satan is like a roaring lion seeking whom to devour

WHEN you became a believer, you went to war with Satan and his wicked kingdom.

We fight an unseen enemy whose mission in John 10:10, is to steal, kill and destroy.

John 10:10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

It is good to know who you are contending with so that you are adequately equipped to engage. Why would a Christian ignore an enemy who the bible warns us clearly about?

1 Peter 5:8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls round like a lion looking for someone to devour.”

Knowledge about the enemy replaces fear and helps in winning in spiritual warfare.

Hoses 4:6 “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

A thief comes to steal because we have something precious!

Spiritual warfare is holding on to the precious things Christ gave us on the cross against the thief.

In this war, we are not victims but victors, we wage the war from a point of victory already. We have the power to overcome every situation.

Outwitted by Satan

It is important to have knowledge about the enemy “so that we would not be outwitted by Satan. 2 Corinthians 2:11, “ in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

We need to be alert to his subtle deception. 2 Corinthians 11:14And no wonder Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” Satan presents himself as something that is 80 per cent truth and 20 per cent false.

A victorious Christian reflects the glory and authority and shines, is full of joy, rules in the sphere of his or her influence. Luke 10:19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and overcome all the power of the enemy, nothing will harm you.

Mark 16: 17, “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new tongues,, they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink poison, it will not harm them at all; they will place their hands on the sick people, and they will get well.”

Satan blocks us from walking in these purposes.

There are three reactions to the war with Satan but the bible  only gives as one sure winning  strategy.

  1. Resist and he will flee-James 4:7“ Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” When we submit to God the Holy Spirit helps us in resistance.

     2. Run away -and be shot in the back!

      3. Ignore him– and you give him easy victory.

Ignoring Satan

Ignoring Satan does not keep him from attacking you.

It is Satan’s business to attack Christians because there is nothing good in him.

Satan’s business is to attack Christians, whether you ignore him he is going to do so.

He likes when we ignore him because we are not aware of what he is doing.

When you ignore Satan he does not ignore you- his business is to pursue you. He is actively opposed and hostile to us.

He is looking for someone to devour-devour means to consume hungrily and quickly!

He knows who we are in Christ and wants to stop us.

Satan hates anything that bears the name of Jesus, once enlisted in the army of the Lord, he marks us because he hates us.

Like kidnappers who abduct a child or a spouse, since he cannot hit at God, Satan will target His children.

Satan’s hierarchy

It is important to know the hierarchy of command in Satan’s army. This will help you target your prayers effectively.

The enemy has a well organised and planned hierarchy and ranking system as he manages his army and each soldier is assigned specific orders to carry out.

Ephesians 6:12: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Ruler – a person who governs or one who has authority or legal powers to make and enforce the law, is sovereign.

Authority- a person who is in command, has power to influence thought, opinion and behaviour

Powers– the ability, capacity to do something

Principalities–  a supra mundane power often in conflict with God, state ruled by a prince(prince of Persia), territorial powers.

Daniel 10:33 “But the prince of Persia withstood me 21 days…”

Satan has put principalities over regions, ethnic groups and families.

To address the spirits involved and deal with the issues, it is important to have knowledge of the hierarchy and commands of the offending kingdom.

Spying the land

In the natural world, a soldier going to fight needs to know the enemy because he cannot fight an enemy he knows nothing about. Governments invest millions of dollars in “know your enemy.”

In spiritual warfare it is called spying the land. Joshua was among the spies sent out to know the enemy when the children of Israel were about to enter Canaan.

You will be effective in prayer when you know the strongholds and principalities and the controlling spirits as you get to the root cause of a spiritual issue.

The schemes of the devil are very well planned, calculated and systematic. He plans his attacks well.

Whatever happens on earth is formed in the heavenlies whether good or bad.

Satan makes his blueprint in the heavenlies and then brings them down to earth, hence we need to pull down Satan’s strongholds by taking the fight to the enemy’s doorstep rather than wait to react after the fact.

It is every believers’ responsibility to pray and destroy what has been programmed against us in the moon, the starts and the sun by Satan, “the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night,” Psalm 126:6. Deal with the heavenlies, scatter his plans before they reach down to us.
