Spiritual warfare: Binding the strongman!

SATAN is the strongman who Jesus has bound. Hallelujah! We have victory through the cross!

On the cross, Christ triumphed over Satan and shamed him, and in death, when He rose again and ascended to Heaven where He sits in glory “far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.” Ephesians  1:21.

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross,” Colossians 2:15.

We are victorious, not victims, we have hope because Christ is in us. Ephesians 2:6  ”And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,”

He gives us the power to overcome every situation.

Satan’s uses invisible barriers to block us from walking in our God-given purposes.

A victorious Christian  reflects glory, authority and joy. He or she rules the sphere of influence where God has put them. “Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea Deuteronomy 11:24  tells us.

Mark 16:17 says there are signs that will to identify believers. “And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them atall; they will place their hands on sick people and they will get well.”

Believers are supposed to spread the goodness of God with the help of the holy Spirit, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.” Acts 10:38.

Mathew 10:5-7 “These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instruction, do not go among the gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans, go rather to the lost sheep of Israel, as you go preach this message: The kingdom of heaven is near, heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons, freely you have received freely give.”

Mathew 28:18 “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of The son and of the Holy spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you and surely am with you always to the very end of the age.

We have a Father who loves us, we will not be shaken because we trust him to deliver us.

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken.” Isaiah 49:24-26.

Choose Him ahead of everything, make Him the centre of your focus.

One of the things Jesus came on earth to do was to “set captives and prisoners free and restore sight to the blind”. Isaiah 61: “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

Prisoners, locked up in correctional facilities for offences around the world are not only the only denied freedom.

We may think we are free, but are bound by things that bother us and make us anxious. We are taken captive spiritually by the prince of the power of the air.

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelation 12:9.

We need freedom from anxiety, worry, fear and oppression.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7.

Stronger man

Psalms 62 :1-2 –My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I shall never be shaken.

It is easy to lose focus when we are going through  hard times. When it is difficult to even know where the next meal is coming from!

We can be blind spiritually and fail to see what God has done or is doing. We fail to discern and start to grumble like the Israelites.

Click the link below to read the dangerous consequences of grumbling even when going through a hard time.

The dangerous consequences of ingratitude

Jesus lifts us up when we are ashamed, embarrassed, unsuccessful, humiliated and rejected. Psalms 106: 44-45 “But He took note of their distress, when He heard their cry. For their sake He remembered His covenant and out of His great love He relented.”

Today, do not walk in a state of defeat. Jesus given us the victory through His work on the Cross of Calvary.

However, the Strongman is the problem.

If we want to achieve anything in the natural we must engage in spiritual warfare.

Mark 3:27 “Infact, no one can enter a strongman’s house and carry off his possession, unless he first ties up the strongman , then he can plunder his house.”

Mathew 12 : 29 “Or again how can one enter a strongman’s house and carry off his possession unless he first ties the strongman? Then he can rob His house.

Luke 11: 21 “When a strongman fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe .But when a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.

Jesus in the stronger man, setting the captives free from the spiritual captivity, chains , yokes of every strongman and making the blind to see! He is lifting those oppressed by strongmen assigned over their families, communities , in collective bloodline bondages that present as invisible barriers to block them from walking freedom.

Subordinate spirits

The strongman is the evil spirit Satan assigned to keep families in perpetual , cycles of sicknesses , inherited family poverty and curses that follow  a bloodline.  He is the chief controlling spirit or captain, or Gatekeeper who supervises other evil spirits.

Evil spirits hardly operate on their own, they are usually a strong man guarding a particular area then there will be other lesser or subordinate spirits under the leadership of the main spirit.

For example a strongman of Bitterness will have lesser spirts manifesting as resentment, hatred, unforgiveness, violence, temper, anger, and retaliation. Sometimes a spirit that is  a lesser or subordinate spirit is a strong man in someone else.

When the strongman is overcome, it is easier for the subordinate spirits to be cast out.

Influence of the strongman

We do not underestimate the power or influence of the strongman , yet we need not to fear him. “He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world.”

Jesus overcame Satan 2000 years ago and he can no longer hold what belongs to God and His people.

The power of the cross overcomes every snare of the devil.

If we trust in Christ He will give us the victory over the devil and his strongmen.

Jesus came to crush the devil. 1 John 3:8 “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.KJV.

He has given us authority over all works of the enemy. Luke 10:19 “ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

The strongman can ‘rightfully’ hold unto an unconfessed sin and mount invisible barriers in a person’s way to success . The strongman can  withhold band fight against what belongs to you-your blessings, your business breakthrough, your promotion at work and any good thing that belongs to you and lock it in his “house.”

Praise God, Jesus can forgive our sins. Mathew 3:8  says, ”Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.”

Jesus gives life in abundance. John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

He is setting free those bowed down in shame and stagnation and healing all those oppressed by the spirits of infirmity.

“When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity. Luke 13:12 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,  and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her :Woman, you are set free from your infirmity. Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

God has a solution for every problem, nothing is too hard for him.

How to be safe from the strongman

A strongman can be a habit that you are not willing to let go of and demons will use it to keep the door open to continue putting your life in bondage.

Every habit(strongman) that we refuse to destroy from our lives will eventually rise up and destroy us.

Here’s how to stay safe from the strongman;

  1. Fill yourself with the word of God– you deliverance begins with the knowledge of the word of the Father. We stay in captivity when we are constantly hearing the enemy and doing his bidding. Freedom is in obeying Christ. John 14:23 “Jesus replied if anyone loves me he will obey my teaching, my father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

  1. Repentance-Learn to ask for forgiveness when we sin, stand tall in His love and ask Him to forgive you. Satan respects the blood. Revelation 12 :11 “They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. They did not love their lives so much as to shrink form death.”

  1. Take you freedom by force -Declare it, stand on the word . Get stubborn with Satan. Mathew 11 :12-15 “From the days of John the Baptist and until now, the kingdom has been forcefully advancing and the violent take it by force.”

  1. Resist the devil-be sober and vigilant. I Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. James 4:7- Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Submit therefore to God and stand against Satan, and he will flee from you.

  1. Forgive others– a loving spirit is required. Refuse to be hateful and mean to confess love. An unforgiving spirit lets the enemy on you again and gives him the legal right to block you.

Jesus was tender, be like him.

Refuse to yield to retaliation. Exercise mercy, gentleness and patience with others. Yield to Christ’s love, meekness and tenderness.

2 Timothy 2:24 ”And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.”

Mathew 5:44 “Leave you gift there in front of the altar, first go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.”

Learn to recognise the striving spirit. It is from the devil. Remember, any enemy spirit  you yield to will keep you in bondage.

Spread the love
