DELIVERANCE ministry is for all believers. There are, however, many Christians who have a lot of fear when it comes to the subject of kicking out evil spirits.
Although every Christian has the authority to kick out evil spirits, according to Mark 16:17, “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out devils; they will speak in new tongues,” not everybody has been called to the deliverance ministry.
Being a deliverance minister will mean people coming to you with various problems of a demonic nature for help or will be sent by someone who believes you are competent enough to deal with this area.

Again, not all those who minister deliverance use the same methods.
We therefore rely totally on the Holy Spirit, on His guidance and direction in every situation we will encounter as we deal with evil spirits.
Luke 4:18-The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach deliverance to the captives.
Evil spirits are terrified of believers who know their authority. Whenever evil spirits came into contact with Jesus they were terrified!
Luke 4:36-All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!
Mark 1:23-28- Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.

Luke 8:27-29- When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs.
When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!” For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
Evil spirits recognised Jesus
The evil spirits recognised Jesus through the eyes of the people they were indwelling. They will be terrified of you if they know that you know your authority in Christ. They also know when a person has no authority!
Acts 19:13-16-Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

Operation of demon spirits
Deliverance is not guesswork but a deliberate spiritual operation that demands discernment, sensitivity and alignment with the Holy Spirit.
When ministering deliverance, the anointed vessel must be able to recognize the presence and operation of demon spirits—not through human observation alone, but by revelation and confirmation of what is happening in the spirit realm.
There are three classic ways evil spirits reveal or report themselves during deliverance:
- What somebody feels
- What spirits are doing to the person
- Beginnings and endings
These three areas provide key clues for identifying, confronting and casting out evil spirits in the authority in the name of Jesus Christ.
- What somebody felt
The first classic giveaway of a spirit is in what a person feels. Many times during deliverance, individuals will describe what they feel emotionally or physically—“I felt humiliated,” “I felt embarrassed,” “I felt rejected,” “I felt abandoned,” “I felt dirty,” “I felt angry.” These expressions are not merely emotions; they are signals of spiritual oppression, bondage and the presence of enforcing spirits.

Demons often attach themselves to traumatic experiences that wounded the soul. They are like flies swarming a dead and rotting animal, they exploit emotional pain, breaking our protective walls by turning moments of trauma into entry points.
Feelings of humiliation, shame, fear or anger can be the residue of a demonic stronghold. The spirit hides behind the emotion, disguising its identity while continuing to trigger the person’s behaviour and mindset.
For instance, a person who constantly feels humiliated may be under the influence of a spirit of shame or rejection. Someone who feels dirty or defiled could be under the oppression of a spirit of lust, abuse, or uncleanness. Those who always feel afraid or anxious might be battling spirits of fear, torment, or insecurity. Feelings of jealousy, bitterness, or anger often reveal spirits of envy, hatred, or unforgiveness.

During deliverance, pay attention to the confessions of feelings that arise—either voluntarily or under the anointing. These feelings are clues that lead to the root cause. The person may say, “I always feel worthless.” That statement identifies the stronghold- a spirit of worthlessness or low self-esteem fueled by rejection.
Once the root emotion is discerned, it must be confronted in the name of Jesus. Speak directly to the spirit attached to that emotion and command it to leave. Healing comes when the soul is restored and the spirit of bondage is expelled.
- Observing what spirits are doing
The second giveaway is what the spirits are doing to the person. Evil spirits often reveal their identity through their activity. In other words, they take on the name of what they do.
For example, a spirit of confusion brings confusion. A spirit of fear causes trembling, anxiety, and panic attacks. A spirit of infirmity brings recurring sickness or weakness. A lying spirit influences deceit and denial. A spirit of heaviness brings depression, discouragement or even suicidal thoughts.
In Mark 9:25, when Jesus encountered a child possessed by an unclean spirit, the spirit made the boy mute and deaf.
Jesus called the spirit by what it was manifesting, “You deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter no more!”
The Lord addressed the exact function of the demon. Click on the link below for a related post;
Deliverance ministers must therefore be keen observers. Watch what happens when the Spirit of God begins to move-Does the person begin to tremble, yawn, or cough? Do they become restless, sleepy or suddenly silent? Do they manifest anger, laughter or mockery?
Each manifestation corresponds to a type of spirit. For example, yawning or coughing often accompanies expulsion of spirits of witchcraft or unclean spirits. Restlessness or resistance may indicate a spirit of rebellion or pride. Mockery or laughter may point to a familiar or mocking spirit trying to deflect exposure. Sudden silence or stupor might signal a spirit of slumber or bondage.
These physical signs help in navigating the spiritual realm during deliverance. The deliverance minister must always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, not the manifestations themselves. There could be no manifestation atall!
- Attention to beginnings and endings
The third classic giveaway lies in timing—the beginnings and endings of events, relationships and life transitions. Every spirit operates within specific times and seasons. Just as the Holy Spirit works in divine timings, demonic spirits also exploit seasons of weakness, transition, and new beginnings.
Many attacks begin when a person enters a new phase—puberty, starting college, a new job, relationship, ministry or major life change. Likewise, certain battles intensify near endings—when one is about to complete a project, finish school, get married or step into destiny. These are gate moments—spiritual transitions that either open doors for advancement or portals for attack.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that “to everything there is a season.” Spirits know this. They aim to strike at the threshold moments when people are vulnerable—during loss, betrayal, relocation or emotional transitions. This is why the Word says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
Do certain negative events keep happening at the same time of year? Does sickness, depression or conflict always appear at the beginning or end of something? Are there recurring cycles of loss, breakup or failure at particular transitions? Is there a sense of near misses, near breakthroughs, Pisgah?
These are signs of seasonal spirits—entities assigned to hinder progress at set times. They must be confronted and overthrown through targeted prayer and prophetic warfare.
Driving out spirits in the name of Jesus
Once the spirits have reported themselves, deliverance becomes precise and powerful. You are no longer fighting blindly. You are waging strategic warfare through revelation. Please click on this link Challenges in deliverance ministry to read a related post.

Here some spirits often identified through these giveaways and that must be driven out in the name of Jesus:
- Spirit of rejection and shame
- Spirit of fear and torment
- Spirit of infirmity and weakness
- Spirit of pride and rebellion
- Spirit of confusion and deception
- Spirit of heaviness and depression
- Familiar spirits and monitoring spirits
- Spirit of delay, setback, and failure at the edge of breakthrough
Prayer of authority:
“In the name of Jesus Christ, I command every unclean spirit—every spirit of rejection, shame, fear, infirmity, pride, confusion, heaviness, delay, and bondage—to depart from this life now! Let every gate once occupied by darkness be filled with the glory of God. Holy Spirit, take full control. Let the peace, power, and presence of Christ reign within this vessel forevermore. Amen.”
Deliverance is a ministry of love and restoration. Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18). When you discern what people feel, what spirits are doing, and the timings of their operation, you move with precision in destroying the works of the devil. And when revelation meets authority, deliverance becomes not only effective—but complete.
Declaration for the day
“I am anointed by the Spirit of the Lord to cast out demons and heal the brokenhearted. Every hidden spirit working against my life or ministry is exposed and expelled in Jesus’ name. I walk in freedom, power and discernment by the Holy Ghost.” Amen.
