CURSES give Satan and his demons the legal right to harass and afflict our lives. We know that evil spirits are not generally free to attack or inhabit people at will or without a reason.
They are like vultures observed flying around a carcass, attracted by the dead and decomposing body of an animal.
Mathew 24:28 says, “wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.“ If we want to get rid of the vultures-we get rid of the carcass!
In the same way the presence of a curse will attract demons and get rid of them we first must get rid of the condition that has brought them in the first place.
A curse is a spoken word that has supernatural power to harm or cause misfortune upon a person, group, place, or object.
Curses are spoken at moments of anger because of a perceived injustice and may involve the use of rituals, incantations, or symbolic actions to convey the hurt person’s strong negative intentions.
The key characteristic of a curse is that it is uttered with the intention of causing harm, misfortune, or negative consequences to the target.
The person uttering the curse may harbor strong negative emotions, such as anger, jealousy or resentment.
Retribution for perceived wrong
Curses can bring about negative consequences for the cursed individual or group which may include illness, financial difficulties, relationship problems or other forms of misfortune.
The idea is that the curse serves as a form of retribution for perceived wrong and injustice(s).
Curses may be cast on entire families. As punishment, Elisha cursed Gehazi, transferring Naaman’s leprosy to him and his descendants forever.
2Kings 5:27. Naaman’s leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever.” Then Gehazi went from Elisha’s presence and his skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow.
Groups and entire communities collectively can bear the impact of curses that go beyond a single person.
Curses can also be directed at objects or property and even animals.
Genesis 3:14. “So the LORD God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.'”
Genesis 3:17. And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life.”
Deuteronomy 7:26. You shall not bring an abomination into your house, lest you become cursed like it, but you must absolutely detest and abhor it, for it is a cursed thing Cursed objects
Curses directed at objects or property binds anyone who possesses or interacts with them.

Sin of the parents
Generational curses have a lasting impact- affecting not only the current generation but also future generations of a family or community.
Exodus 20 : 5 .You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
Exodus 34:7. Maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.
Numbers 14:18. The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.
Jeremiah 32:18. You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them.
Great and mighty God, whose name is the LORD Almighty
Lamentations 5:7. Our fathers sinned and are no more and we bear their punishment
Curses come from God
Many Christians mistakenly see Satan as the source of curses. For example a Christian may notice that most people in their family suffer from unemployment, cancer or even no marriage.
They will turn to Satan and start to engage in a fierce battle, commanding him to let go of their jobs and families in Jesus name!

Curses come from God because of disobedience. In sending curses God is dealing with His children and it is not the enemy doing it.

The enemy only comes to take advantage of the existence or presence of the curse.
Deuteronomy 28:14-15. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.
However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you.”
Here, God is warning His children of the punishment for idolatry, the worshipping of other gods and the trans-generational punishment that touches the descendants to “third and fourth.”
We also see in Deuteronomy 28:20 that its is the Lord who send curses because of disobedience.
“The LORD will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him,” it says.

Curses derive their power in guilt
Curses derive their strength from guilt according to Proverbs 26:2 which states, “An undeserved curse will be powerless to harm you. It may flutter over you like a bird, but it will find no place to land .”
When Aaron worshipped another god, Exodus 32:4. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool.
Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt,” he brought a curse in his bloodline.
The curse of premature death had been activated and it came upon his children, Nadab and Abihu(Leviticus 10).
When a curse of premature death is following you it makes you do things that cause death.
A curse that is groundless or unjustified will not come to fruition.
If there is no valid reason or cause, a curse will not have an effect. Curses have power when there is a legitimate basis for them.
Guilt or a sense of wrongdoing is seen to amplify the effects of curses.
