Endure to the end, Chairman urges believers

BBI chairman Dan ole Shani

BBI CHAIRMAN Rev, Dan Ole Shani delivered a timely and sobering message at Bread of Life Church in Nairobi, Kenya urging believers to endure to the end in our Christian life.”

Preaching on August 17 2025 from Matthew 24:12–14, he reminded the congregation that the hallmark of true discipleship is not just starting the journey of faith with zeal, but pressing on with perseverance until the finish line.

Jesus Himself warned that, “because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world… and then the end will come.”

Rev. Shani emphasized that perseverance is not optional for a believer but is the very evidence of authentic faith.

Love growing cold towards the end

Drawing from 2 Timothy 3:1–5, he outlined 19 signs of love that has grown cold, as Paul described the perilous times of the last days. These include people being lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen in conceit, lovers of pleasure and having a form of godliness but denying its power.

He warned that when a Christian begins to display such traits, “they have already drifted far from intimacy with Christ.”

“Like the proverbial frog placed in gradually heated water, many believers may not notice the spiritual decline until it is too late,” Rev. Shani explained.

Rev Shani said the danger lies in walking past warning signs, ignoring godly counsel and resisting the conviction of the Holy Spirit to lead to repentance.

“By the time  a Christian gets on this list the self deception is so deep, they hardly notice. They become the frog in the gradually heated  water. It means they walked past the earning signs and the cautions and the advice of godly people,” he said.

Rev Shani said signs of the end of this age are many. He urged congregants to read this chapter whenever cataclysmic world events (VUCA) happen to  get the right perspective.

Persevering to the end

Rev. Shani pointed the congregation to 2 Peter 1:5–7, where Peter lists eight qualities that safeguard perseverance:

  1. Faith – trusting in God’s promises.
  2. Goodness (virtue) – choosing moral excellence.
  3. Knowledge – growing in understanding of God’s Word.
  4. Self-control – mastering desires and impulses.
  5. Perseverance – standing firm under trial.
  6. Godliness – living reverently before God.
  7. Brotherly kindness – showing love to fellow believers.
  8. Love – the crowning virtue that reflects Christ Himself.

He said that these qualities do not come automatically but by intentional desire. “Peter urges believers to ‘make every effort,’ to develop them. It is an intentional pursuit, requiring daily surrender, spiritual discipline and reliance on the Holy Spirit,” he said.

Referring to 2 Peter 1:10–11, Rev. Shani exhorted the church to be diligent in confirming their calling and election.

By cultivating these qualities and making every effort to stay close to Christ, believers will not stumble, he said.

He said enduring to the end is about clinging to Christ, abiding in His Word and depending on the Spirit of God.

Repentance in the end times

Rev. Shani’s call to repentance and perseverance was both a warning and an invitation. Believers are challenged not to drift with the currents of the age but to press forward with endurance, fueled by love for Christ.

Jesus promised that : He who endures to the end shall be saved.
