How to maintain your deliverance

ANYONE who goes through deliverance experiences release from Satan’s chains as the burdensome yokes are removed and baggage rolled off the shoulders. You feel light!

As the demons leave a new frontier pops open. It is now time, not to relax, but to take the next step to maintain your deliverance-sustain your newfound freedom and to close all doors to keep the evil spirits from returning.

This article gives the tips that will help you keep safe from relapsing or going back to the old ways which is a common thing in the ministry of deliverance.

Remember, it is much easier to kick out demons than to keep them from returning!

Mathew 12: 43-45 says, When an impure spirit comes out of a person it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.

Then it says, I will return to the house I left, when it arrives and finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order, it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself and they go in and live there, and the final condition of that person is worse than the first.

That’s is how it will be with this wicked generation.

Demons are kicked out during deliverance, by self or through the help of a deliverance minister. They surely leave under the unchallengeable power of the Holy Spirit and truth encounter of the word of God.

The Bible teaches us that they will go looking around for a place to enter to “find rest” but find none.

They return to “see if the former house they occupied is unoccupied.” The house referred to here is their former habitation- someone or a place.

If they find it empty, the whole purpose of  deliverance is scuttled!

They will come in with seven other spirits much more stronger than the one which was kicked out leading to reinforced bondage and the latter state of that man or woman “is worse than the former.”

Walking in victory

Keeping your “your house” clean, occupied and safe from returning demons and to continue walking in the victory of your new found freedom is your responsibility.

To maintain your deliverance and keep returning demons at bay, requires  an understanding of the nature of the warfare that erupts after deliverance.

Here’s what you need to know about how to maintain your deliverance;

1.The battle has escalatedSince you have become more knowledgeable about spiritual warfare after deliverance, and Satan knows it, it means the fight has been escalated to another level from now on.

This battle takes place in the mind! To win and stay victorious requires a mind-set change.

If you have been used to defeat and lack, the mind and even the speech have been programmed that way. You now need to be transformed by renewing your mind and charting a new life path with your words.

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will is: His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

As a man thinks so is he (Proverbs 23:7).

Chart a new life path through your mind and the words you speak. Choose positive thinking and words of faith and affirm them. “Let the weak say I am strong, let the poor say I am rich!”

The battle has increased, yes, but so has the grace of God. You also have received more grace to win and to walk in dominion and authority.

Luke 10:19. I give you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy, nothing will harm you.

2.You cannot live the way you used to before deliveranceAs Satan’s tactics have advanced, you can no longer live the way you used to before deliverance!

You are now under new management, you can now not use the same tactics, the same patterns, old formulas which were leading to defeat.

Simply put, you cannot live as before- you are now under the new management of the Holy Spirit. James 4:7  says Submit yourselves then to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

John 10:27. My sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me.

Ask the Lord to reveal to you the nature of the battle and the tactics to use. Some of the toughest temptations come immediately after deliverance.

3.The need to feed on the wordThe word is a treasure to be discovered.

Mathew 13:44.  The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, when a man found it, he hid  again and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

Fall in love with the Bible- God’s voice. Hear it. Romans 10:17. Consequently faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Read it. Revelation 1:3. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart was is written in it, because the time is near.

Study it. Acts 17:11. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Memorise it, meditate on it. Joshua 1:8 “Keep this book of the law always o your lips, meditate on it day and night so that you will be careful to do everything written in it, then you will be prosperous ad successful.”’

Hebrews 4:12. For the word of Gods is alive and active sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to the dividing of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Psalm 119:105. Your word is a lamp unto my feet, a light to my path.

Psalm 119: 130. The unfolding of your word gives light, it gives understanding to the simple.

Jeremiah 23:29.  Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces.

2 Timothy 3:16-17.  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Use the truth of the word of God to replace the lies of the enemy. Declare His word and promises over your life everyday.

  1. Praying authoritativelyAfter deliverance, your position has changed. Begin to introduce new vocabulary (active verbs) into your prayers, you can pray something like;

BBI members pray during a deliverance session
A prayer session at a BBI event in Nairobi, Kenya

“I take authority over the spirt of…by the power of the Holy Spirit and command t to leave!”

“I silence voices of ….in Jesus mighty name!”

“I dry up your roots by the power of the Holy Spirit!”

“I send the thunder fire of the Holy Ghost to destroy….!”

“I smash the altar of…. with the rock of ages, in Jesus mighty name!”

“I put on the armour of God and I stand in Jesus name!”

Be bold in your prayer and command evil spirit(s) to leave in the name of Jesus Christ!

5.Prayer and fastingFast when things are serious when it is a heart issue. In Nineveh, even were made animals to fast!

Fasting helps you to be alert in the spirit. Prayer and fasting are a combination needed for “the kind” of battle you face after your deliverance.

It’s the need that calls for the affliction of our body and the determination to hear from God through fasting.

Mark 9:29. He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting.

Jonah 3:7This is the proclamation issued in Nineveh, the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals , herds of flock taste anything, do not let them eat or drink.

Nehemiah 1:4. When I heard these things, I sat down and wept for some days. I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

Joel 2:12 “ Even now, declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart with fasting and weeping and mourning.

To maintain your deliverance, strongholds-Satan’s fortified places in the mind-must be pulled down and replaced with the truth of God’s word.

6.Beware of the strongholdThe devil does not use new tricks!  A stronghold is the evil spirit that was kicked out during deliverance. It is the point of weakness which Satan formerly used to defeat you. He would want to use it again in the return course!

To exercise victory over the stronghold and to maintain your deliverance, you must cut off all old ungodly habits which usually hinder your growth.

Old friends will pull you down. Beware of ex-girlfriends/boyfriends too. They form ungodly soul ties demons will use in their return path. Beware of old places you used to visit which may trigger a relapse.

Demonic strongholds and renewal of the mind

Luke 8:14. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go their way, they are choked by life’s worries , riches and pleasures and they do not mature.

7.Avoid sinSin unconfessed opens doors and will give Satan the legal ground to attack you with stronger demons.

Isaiah 59:2.But your iniquities have separated you from your God, your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear.

Confess your sins to God and to one another. James 5 :16. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray to each others that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

John 5:14. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.

These seven points, if adhered to strictly, will help you to maintain your deliverance and deny entry to demons attempting to return.

They will help in keeping the house clean, occupied with the Spirit and things of God.
